The Experience
I’ll be honest — I almost didn’t book the private catamaran cruise in Corfu. It felt like too much, you know? But the second we stepped barefoot onto the deck and that warm wood creaked under us, I just felt lighter. Our skipper, Yannis, handed out cold drinks before we’d even left the harbor. He said something about “Barbati being best in the morning,” and grinned like he had a secret. The water was so clear it made my sunglasses useless — you could see straight to the pebbles below.
We drifted along Corfu’s northeast coast, passing these tiny coves that looked impossible to reach by land. At Strogylo beach, I jumped in first (the others hesitated — it was early) and the water was cool but not shocking. There was this moment floating on my back where all I could hear was someone’s laughter from the boat and distant cicadas on shore. Yannis sliced up fruit for us and I swear those peaches tasted like sunshine. He joked about my paddle boarding skills — or lack of them — but helped me up anyway.
I liked that there wasn’t any rush; we stopped at Kalami just because someone wanted another swim, and nobody minded. The crew kept offering snacks and prosecco, but mostly just let us do our thing. At one point I tried to say “thank you” in Greek — Li laughed when she heard me butcher it. Still think about that view from Kerasia beach: pale stones under turquoise water, quiet except for our voices echoing off the cliffs. If you want a day trip from Corfu that actually feels private, not staged, this is it.
