The experience
You meet at Kos Port and climb aboard a small wooden fishing boat captained by George. The boat heads out into the sparkling blue waters of the Aegean toward the best fishing grounds off the southern coastline: the side of the island you can only see from the water. As you sail, the crew demonstrates how to cast, bait a hook and work a line, then hands you a rod and fresh bait so you can try it yourself. You're free to participate actively or simply watch the crew work their traditional Greek techniques, the same methods families have used for thousands of years.
Once the boat reaches a prime fishing spot, you work together to catch fish. The crew handles the heavy lifting, but you're part of the effort: hauling in what bites, learning the rhythm of the water and the patience the work demands. A sandwich and refreshment are served on the boat to keep you going. After a few hours on the water, the boat turns back toward the harbor, giving you time to take in the southern coastline views as you return.
When you dock, you take your catch to a local tavern near the port and cook it for lunch, paired with wine. The meal is yours to arrange and pay for separately, but the fish, the whole point of the morning, is what you caught. Hotel pickup by minivan is available if you choose it at checkout.

Is this one for you?The 3-hour window leaves the rest of your day free for other activities, but it's long enough to sail out to the real fishing grounds and actually catch something. If you're prone to seasickness, the extended time on a small boat makes this a poor fit. If you're comfortable on the water and want to participate in something rather than watch it happen, this is built for you.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (3 to 10 years); Infant (under 3): free.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What fishing techniques will I actually learn on this trip?
The crew teaches traditional Greek methods: how to cast, bait a hook with fresh bait, and work a line. You receive a rod, hooks, lures and bait, and get a demonstration before you try it yourself, so you're casting and fishing within the first hour.
Can I keep the fish we catch?
Yes. You take your catch to a local tavern near the port after the boat returns, where you can have it cooked and eat it with wine. The meal cost is separate from the activity price.
How long is the boat ride out to the fishing grounds?
The full activity is 3 hours total, including the sail out, fishing time at the prime spots, and the return to harbor. Most of that time is spent on the water fishing rather than traveling.
Is this trip suitable if I get seasick easily?
The activity is not recommended for people prone to seasickness. The boat is small and traditional, and you'll be on the water for the full 3 hours, so motion sensitivity is worth considering before booking.
What's included in the price, and what do I need to pay for separately?
All fishing gear, a sandwich and a refreshment on the boat are included. The lunch at the tavern (cooking and serving your catch with wine) is arranged by you and paid separately to the tavern.
