Step-by-step itinerary

Tour Ghana's cocoa farm and culture

  • Visit cocoa farm and learn history
  • Observe daily farm practices
  • See rural Ghanaian lifestyle
  • Explore unique cocoa products

The experience

The farm sits in a town with its own history, and the day starts there. You'll see the landscape and hear how the place came to be. From there, the tour moves into the daily rhythm of the cocoa operation itself. You watch how the beans are grown, harvested and turned into finished goods, the kind of products the farm makes that don't reach anywhere else in the world. It's not a demonstration. You're seeing the actual work as it happens on the land.

The second half of the day opens onto how the people who work the farm actually live. You'll see their homes, what they eat, the texture of rural life in Ghana that tourists rarely get close to. Lunch and snacks are built into the day, so you're not hunting for food or breaking the rhythm. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and the guide speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of six other languages, so the details land clearly.

The whole day runs about six and a half hours, which means you can fit it into a morning or an afternoon without losing the rest of your time in Accra. Children from age one travel with you, and the farm is suitable for all fitness levels, though it's not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, or if you're pregnant.
