The experience

The day starts at Munich Central Station, where you board a high-speed train with tickets already in hand. The two-hour journey gets you to Nuremberg Central Station, where your private guide meets you and leads a walking tour through the Old Town. The route crosses the Pegnitz river and passes the Main Market Square, where the Schöner Brunnen fountain and the Old Town Hall anchor the medieval layout.

St. Lorenz Church holds Veit Stoss's carved Angelic Salutation and Adam Kraft's monumental tabernacle; Frauenkirche displays restored sculptures on its facade; St. Sebald's interior features stained glass windows, paintings and a pipe organ. Entry to St. Lorenz is included. The other two churches are free. The guide also takes you to the courtyard of the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg (Kaiserburg), exterior only, and walks you through Handwerkerhof, a reconstructed medieval village where craftspeople demonstrate traditional trades.

After four hours of guided walking, you have an hour free to eat lunch (at your own expense, though it can be arranged on request) and browse for souvenirs before boarding the return train to Munich. The 8.5-hour option adds a one-way transfer from your accommodation to Munich Central Station, so you don't need to arrange your own transport there. The 8-hour option assumes you reach the station independently.
