Step-by-step itinerary

Hiking and exploring Bavarian Alps

  • Train ride from Munich to Bayrischzell
  • Explore Bayrischzell village and church
  • Hike through Bavarian Alps paths
  • Stop at hydrotherapy pool
  • Lunch at mountain farm
  • Return hike to Bayrischzell

The experience

The day starts with a train ride south from Munich that takes around 1 hour 15 minutes, passing scenic Lake Schliersee and parts of the German Alpine Road before you arrive at Bayrischzell. The alpine village itself is the trailhead: old farmhouses with abundant flowers line the streets, and the baroque parish church St. Margareth sits at the center. Your guide meets you here and leads only your group: no strangers on the path.

The hike itself covers 4 kilometers with 230 meters of elevation gain over roughly 1 hour 45 minutes. You'll walk winding paths through the Bavarian Alps, cross bridges, pass rockpools and pastures, and after about an hour reach a small hydrotherapy pool where you can wade into ice-cold mountain water up to your knees if you choose. The path is rugged and narrow in places, so sturdy shoes with grip are essential. Hiking poles are provided. After this refreshing stop, you continue to an old mountain farm where you break for an authentic Bavarian lunch (paid locally) with the mountains as your backdrop.

On the return hike, you walk back through Bayrischzell village before heading to the train station for the journey back to Munich. The entire day runs about 7 hours from start to finish. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person, sunglasses, and extra layers: mountain weather can shift quickly. Your guide carries stories about local culture and lifestyle throughout, so you're learning as you walk.

What’s included
