The experience
How do you walk through a city that no longer exists? This tour puts VR glasses on you at five stations scattered through Hanover, each one reconstructing a moment the city has already left behind. At the old Aegidient Gate, the city wall rises around you again: a defensive barrier that shaped trade and survival during the Thirty Years' War. You meet Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz at his workspace and see the computing machine he envisioned. The tour moves through the industrial boom of the 19th century, when factory chimneys filled the skyline and the bourgeoisie strolled new boulevards. Then it drops into a narrow alley in the old town, showing how people lived in cramped, unsanitary conditions at the turn of the century. The final station resurrects an architectural masterpiece, a river water art installation, that has vanished from the modern cityscape.
A professional guide in German walks the group through each station, handling the logistics and telling the story so you can focus on what you're seeing. The VR technology is straightforward. No experience needed. The whole experience runs about two hours. Families with children from age 10 can join, and the tour is wheelchair accessible.
