The experience

Five to six hours takes you from Batumi into one of Georgia's most remote protected forests. The drive itself is part of the experience: you stop several times to photograph the subtropical landscape and cross an extreme footbridge before reaching the visitors center. An exotic cable car ride follows, then the hiking begins. The main trail to the waterfall and lake covers 4 km total, though shorter and longer routes exist depending on what suits your pace.

After the hike, you swim in the river to cool off. Lunch happens at a local farmer's place with organic food, and you can also buy honey directly from the farmers who work in the park. The whole day moves at a pace that lets you breathe in the forest rather than rush through it: stops for photos, time to explore the visitors center, the option to add a zip-line if you want that rush. An air-conditioned vehicle brings you back to Batumi at the end.
