The experience
The day starts with a ferry ride from Banjul to Barra, on Gambia's north bank, a key river crossing on the way to Senegal. Once you reach the north bank, you'll travel through Amdallai to cross the border into Senegal. This is where your documents matter: your passport must have at least six months of validity remaining, and you'll need your yellow fever vaccination card. The guide handles the logistics of the crossing itself, but the paperwork is on you.
At Fathala Safari Park, you move through the reserve looking for lions, rhinos, elephants, hyenas and other African wildlife. The guide's 20 years in the field means he knows where animals are likely to be and can explain their behavior and ecology as you spot them. This is not a rushed drive-through. You have time to watch and photograph. Lunch is included on the tour.
The return follows the same route in reverse: back across the Senegal-Gambia border (documents again), then the ferry from Barra to Banjul and the drive back to your hotel. Bottled water is provided throughout.
