The experience
You start in Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet in the heart of the Pyrenees-Orientales with a safety briefing, then get fitted with a harness, helmet and lanyards. The route itself is the point: you move as a group along a fixed cable, crossing suspension bridges that swing out over the valley, climbing vertical rock sections by hand and foot, and picking your way across aerial passages bolted to the cliff face. A qualified instructor stays with you the whole way, managing the rope and pacing the group so everyone moves at their own speed.
The views open up as you climb higher. The Agly Valley spreads below, and the surrounding mountains of the East Pyrenees frame the route. This is not a sightseeing tour where you stop and look. The looking happens while you move, and the climbing is what makes the views stick. You'll spend the four hours working through the sections, supporting each other on the harder passages, and building the kind of focus that comes from being roped to a mountain with people you started the day with as strangers.
At the end you get souvenir photos from the day. The activity is accessible to beginners because the guide adjusts the pace and the route itself is engineered for safe progression, but it demands real physical effort and comfort on vertical ground.

Is this one for you?The route demands sustained physical effort and comfort climbing vertical rock while roped in, so it suits people who are fit and unafraid of heights, not a casual afternoon activity. The group pace means you move together, which is what makes the shared experience work and keeps everyone safe on the exposed sections.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and French.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I do the Via Ferrata if I've never climbed before?
Yes. The route is designed for all levels, and the qualified guide adjusts the pace so beginners move safely through each section. You'll be roped to a fixed cable the whole way, and the instructor manages the belay.
What's included in the four hours, and what do I need to bring?
The guide, harness, helmet, lanyards and souvenir photos are all included. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes with good grip, and dress for the weather at altitude in the Pyrenees. The route is exposed and there's no shelter.
How high do you climb, and what are the suspension bridges like?
The route takes you up the cliff face with sections that are nearly vertical, and the suspension bridges sway slightly as you cross them. That's the adrenaline part. You're always roped in, and the cable is fixed to the rock.
What's the minimum age, and can children do this?
The minimum age is 12. Children need to be comfortable on vertical ground and have the physical strength to pull themselves up climbing sections. The guide will assess each person at the start.
Do you need to book in advance, and how do I get to Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet?
Yes, book ahead. Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet is in the Pyrenees-Orientales, about an hour inland from Perpignan. You'll need your own transport or a rental car to reach the meeting point.
