The experience

The Trianon Estate sits on the grounds of Versailles but operates as a separate world. Grand Trianon was built as a retreat for Louis XIV, designed in pale pink marble with colonnaded galleries overlooking formal gardens. Petit Trianon, built later for Louis XV, is smaller and more intimate: a neoclassical villa where Marie Antoinette spent her private hours. Both palaces remain furnished with period pieces, and you move through the rooms yourself, reading the plaques and absorbing the scale of these royal hideaways.

Marie Antoinette's Queen's Hamlet sits deeper in the gardens, a cluster of thatched cottages and a small farm she had built as her personal countryside fantasy. It is less a working farm than a theatrical set of rural life, complete with a mill, a dairy, and a tower. The gardens connecting all three sites are landscaped and open to wander: no roped-off sections, no crowds pressing through doorways. You set the rhythm. There is no guide narration or fixed route.

The grounds are wheelchair accessible, and strollers work on the paved paths. Public transport stops nearby if you need it. Two to three hours is typical, though you can move faster or linger longer depending on how closely you read the rooms and how far into the gardens you roam.

What's the difference between this ticket and the main Palace of Versailles entry?

This ticket covers only the Trianon Estates: the Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, Queen's Hamlet, and their gardens. It does not include the Palace of Versailles itself or the Hall of Mirrors. The Trianon is a separate, quieter section of the Versailles grounds, designed as private royal retreats rather than the ceremonial palace.

What is Marie Antoinette's Queen's Hamlet?

The Queen's Hamlet is a collection of thatched cottages and farm buildings that Marie Antoinette had built as her private retreat within the gardens. It includes a mill, a dairy, and a tower, arranged to evoke a rustic countryside setting. It is one of the most unusual structures at Versailles.

How much time should I plan for the Trianon Estate?

Most visitors spend two to three hours exploring the palaces, rooms, and gardens. You can move faster if you skip the interiors, or stay longer if you want to read every placard and walk the full extent of the landscaped grounds.

Are the gardens included with this ticket?

Yes. The ticket includes access to the gardens surrounding Grand Trianon, Petit Trianon, and the Queen's Hamlet. The gardens are open to explore freely and connect all three sites.
