The Alps flow into the sea here, and you'll see where they end underwater.

A half-day snorkeling and introductory scuba activity in Nice combines boat access to the Côte d'Azur's underwater geology with time in the water itself. You'll snorkel first, then descend for roughly 30 minutes with an instructor to explore the Mediterranean fauna, flora and the submerged alpine terrain. The boat holds small groups and returns with wine or syrup drinks and a snack.

The experience

You meet at 9am or 2pm and depart 30 minutes later. The boat trip itself is part of the experience: your instructors brief you for ten minutes on what to expect, then you arrive at a site where the underwater relief (cliffs and plateaus) is unreachable from shore. You'll snorkel first to get your bearings, then descend with your guide for about 30 minutes to see the Mediterranean's richness: the fauna and flora, and the geological fact that makes this coast unusual, where the Alps meet the sea.

The whole outing takes three hours at sea. On the way back, the boat serves rosé or red wine with a snack, and you'll have time to take in the coastline from the water. Children from age 8 are welcome. Those who cannot swim are accepted with an additional charge of 35 euros. Your guide speaks English and holds state certification.
