The experience
You arrive at Domaine Beaumont at 10am and start with an introduction to the vineyard itself: a walk through the vines under the Saumur appellation where Gérald grows the grapes that become his wines. From there, you descend into the troglodyte cave, a cathedral-like cellar carved into the stone where the wines are aged and stored. The scale and quiet of the space set the tone for what follows.
In the tasting room, Gérald guides you through nine wines, each one a reflection of his approach to organic winemaking without added sulfites. He walks you through the selection of grapes, the craft of vinification, and what makes each cuvée distinct: the terroir, the story of the vineyard expressed in the bottle. Whether you're tasting wine for the first time or you've done it a hundred times, the conversation stays grounded in what's actually in your glass and why it tastes the way it does.
Lunch is a casse-croûte du vigneron, a picnic-style baguette sandwich filled with either smoked trout rillettes or smoked duck rillettes and cornichons, adaptable for vegetarians. Water is provided throughout.
