You’ll follow a local guide through Montmartre’s winding streets, stopping for curated tastings of cheese, charcuterie, pastries, chocolate, and French wine. Expect laughter over mispronounced words, stories about artists and vineyards you’d never find alone, and moments that linger long after you leave Paris.
The tour almost started off on the wrong foot — I took the wrong metro exit and ended up staring at the Moulin Rouge’s neon windmill from the opposite side of the street. Our guide Camille spotted me looking lost (she waved with a croissant in hand, which felt very on-brand for Paris). She gathered our little group together and led us straight into Montmartre’s maze of cobblestone lanes. There was this faint smell of baking bread everywhere, even though it was already mid-morning. I kept thinking: is that just how this neighborhood always smells?
Camille didn’t rush us. She paused to point out the Clos des Vignes — apparently the only vineyard left in Paris, tucked behind an iron gate and tangled with green. We tried to pronounce some French names; Li laughed when I tried to say “charcuterie” (I definitely butchered it). The first tasting stop was a tiny shop where the owner sliced cheese so carefully you’d think he was cutting gold. The Saint-Nectaire was creamy and earthy — honestly, I still think about that bite. And then there was chocolate so rich it stuck to my teeth for a minute after.
We wandered past artists setting up at Place du Tertre, their hands stained with paint, not caring who watched. At one point Camille ducked into a bakery she said had “the best choux in Montmartre,” and handed us warm pastries dusted with sugar. The window steamed up as we ate inside, listening to her talk about Picasso living nearby — apparently he used to pay for meals with sketches when he was broke. The day trip through Montmartre felt like walking through someone else’s memories, but also making new ones over every glass of wine.
