The Experience

I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect from an English comedy show in Paris. Part of me wondered if it’d be all tourist clichés or just awkward jokes about baguettes. But Julie—she’s the comedian—walked on stage with this kind of nervous energy that felt oddly familiar, like someone you might meet at a friend’s dinner party. She started talking about Parisians (herself included) and suddenly everyone was laughing, even the French folks in the crowd. There was something about her voice, quick and sharp but warm too, that made me forget I was sitting in a theater full of strangers.

The show’s 100% in English, which made it easy for me (and honestly, my French is terrible). Julie told these little stories about life here—awkward Metro rides, weird neighbor habits, how Parisians always seem slightly annoyed by everything but secretly care a lot.
