The experience
You're picked up from Le Havre cruise terminal, your hotel or the airport, wherever suits your arrival, and travel in a private van for the full day with a professional driver. The 30-minute drive takes you to Étretat, where you walk through the village past timber-fronted houses and explore the shops and cafés before heading to the beach. From the shoreline you see the chalk cliffs that stopped Courbet mid-career (he painted them over fifty times) and drew Monet back again and again. If you want the view from above, you hike up the hills to look back at the village and ocean together.
After Étretat, your driver takes you to Honfleur, where you walk the winding cobbled streets that Eugène Boudin and the Impressionists made famous. You see the old port, Sainte Catherine Church and its separate bell tower, then climb to the top of the village for a panoramic view before heading to a local farm. There you taste Norman cider, Pommeau and Calvados: the only tour from Le Havre that includes this stop. You have roughly an hour of free time for lunch on your own before the return drive to the cruise terminal, timed so you're back before your ship departs.
The van is private to your group alone, and you can add a multilingual guide who brings both Étretat and Honfleur to life in your language. Pickup is flexible: cruise terminal, hotel or airport, and the operator guarantees your return before all-aboard time.

Top questions
I'm arriving on a cruise ship in Le Havre, how does pickup work?
Your driver meets you at the cruise terminal and picks you up there. If you're staying at a hotel or arriving at the airport instead, pickup happens from either of those locations. The return is timed to get you back before your ship's all-aboard time.
What exactly is Étretat and why did Monet paint it so many times?
Étretat is a coastal village famous for its dramatic chalk cliffs, a natural stone arch and a needle-shaped rock formation called the Aiguille that jut into the sea. The cliffs change appearance depending on the light and weather, which is why Monet returned repeatedly to capture them in different conditions. He was drawn to how the same landscape looked entirely different at sunrise, midday and sunset.
Do I need a guide, or can I explore on my own?
The tour includes a private driver for the full day. A multilingual guide is optional. Without a guide, you explore Étretat and Honfleur at your own pace. With a guide, they walk with you through both villages and explain the history and art behind each stop.
What's included in the cider tasting, and where does it happen?
The tasting happens at a local Norman ciderie (farm) and includes cider, Pommeau (a blend of cider and Calvados) and Calvados brandy. It's included in the tour price and is the only tasting stop offered by any tour operator leaving Le Havre.
How much time do I have for lunch?
You have approximately one hour of free time in Honfleur for lunch, which you choose and pay for on your own. Your driver waits and then takes you to the ciderie for the tasting before returning to Le Havre.
Is this tour suitable if I'm not very fit or have mobility concerns?
The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. The clifftop walk at Étretat is included, but you set your own pace. You can walk as much or as little as you want along the beach and village. Honfleur's old quarter involves cobbled streets and some hills, though your driver can take you to the top of the village by van if you prefer not to walk the full route. Wheelchair accessibility and specialized infant seats are available.
