The experience
You ride in a sidecar with a private driver through the mountain roads of the Basque Country, starting with the village of Sare, labeled one of France's most beautiful villages. The route climbs toward Col de Saint-Ignace at 759 meters, the starting point of the famous Rhune train, passing through Ascain on winding trails that were once smuggling routes. The driver stops whenever you want to photograph the landscape or the animals: Black Pigeon pigs in semi-free range, Pottoks, and raptors if you're lucky.
The intercom in your helmet lets you hear the driver and talk back as you ride, so you're not shouting over the engine. You wear gloves and a helmet for the whole tour. The views open toward the Bay of Saint-Jean-de-Luz as you climb, and the Pyrenean chain frames the whole route. The tour takes two hours total, moving at a pace that lets you take in the landscape without rushing through the villages.
