The experience

You start from your Rovaniemi hotel, picked up and driven to a viewing location where the hunt for the Northern Lights begins. A professional photographer travels with the group and frames shots of you against the Aurora as it moves across the sky: the moment most visitors want to remember but can't capture alone. The experience lasts three to four hours, so you're outside long enough to chase the lights if they appear, but the timing also depends on seasonal daylight and what the local provider confirms in the email they send before your departure.

Winter clothes are provided: an overall and boots so you can stand outside without your own gear. Between watching the sky, the photographer works. You get the images emailed to you after the tour ends. A campfire BBQ breaks up the waiting: reindeer sausage, marshmallows toasted over the fire, and hot blueberry juice. Vegetarian and vegan alternatives are available if you request them at booking.

The group size varies by day: at least two people are required on weekdays and Saturdays. Sundays and public holidays need at least four. During December through January, Rovaniemi sees heavy tourist traffic, so groups can grow larger than usual.
