The experience

The minivan picks you up from your hotel and heads toward the coast, passing the Uspenski Cathedral (the largest Orthodox cathedral in Northern Europe), and the icebreakers docked for the summer before stopping at Senate Square. Here you'll see the white Helsinki Cathedral as a backdrop and walk to the colorful open-air market in Market Square, where locals and visitors mix. The guide shares the story of each stop as you move through them, so you're not just seeing the landmarks but understanding what they are.

From there the route follows Mannerheim Street, the main thoroughfare, where you pass the Parliament House, National Museum, and Finlandia Hall. The car continues past the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, designed by American architect Steven Hall, and on to the Olympic Stadium, which hosted the 1952 Olympic Games, and the Opera House completed in 1993. The Sibelius Park comes next, where you stop to photograph the monument honoring Finland's most famous composer, Jean Sibelius. The tour ends at the Temppeliaukio Church, also known as the Rock Church, built directly into solid rock, where you'll have time for personal photos after hearing its story from your guide.
