The experience

You're picked up from your Tallinn hotel and driven south through Estonia to Pärnu, a seaside resort town known for its spas, white sand beach and parks. The driver will advise on lunch stops at local restaurants if you want to eat along the way. After Pärnu, the route continues into Latvia toward Turaida Castle, where the driver leads you to the museum ticket office. The castle sits on a hill with a viewing platform at 27 metres: the operator notes there's no other view like it in Latvia. From there it's a straight drive to Riga.

Your driver speaks English and will answer questions and point out sights, but this is not a guided tour with licensed commentary. If you want a professional guide at Turaida Castle or elsewhere, you can arrange one in advance for an extra fee. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and bottled water is included. Because some Estonian and Latvian sites close on certain days in winter, the driver can suggest alternatives if a site you wanted to visit isn't open that day. The route is flexible. If you have detours in mind, tell the operator and they'll adjust it.

Choose between a sedan for up to three passengers or a minivan for up to seven. Both are private vehicles with pickup from your hotel included. Turaida Castle entrance is not included in the transfer price, so budget separately for that ticket.

Can we see Turaida Castle from the outside if we don't buy a ticket?

Turaida Castle is a stone fortress that dates back to 1214, and the main draw is the viewing platform at 27 metres inside the tower, which the operator says offers a unique view across the region. The castle grounds may be visible from outside, but the platform and museum exhibition require a ticket you purchase separately.

What if a site is closed when we arrive?
