Step-by-step itinerary
Full-day tour of Estonia's nature and villages
- Drive 70 km from Tallinn
- Stop at Viru Bog
- Visit Palmse and Sagadi Manors
- Explore fishing villages Käsmu and Altja
- Have a meal in Viitna cafe or restaurant
The experience
The tour leaves Tallinn and drives 70 km into Estonia's northeast to Lahemaa, where the landscape shifts to forest, bog, coastline and old villages. You decide which stops matter: the Viru Bog boardwalk, the manor houses at Palmse or Sagadi, the captain's village of Käsmu with its seaside houses, or Altja's smaller fishing settlement. The guide knows the region and can reroute on the fly if a cafe catches your eye or a detour appeals to you. The flexibility is the point. A full-day tour that does not force you through a fixed schedule.
Private transport means you travel in your own vehicle with the guide, not in a group van. The guide speaks English, German or Russian and handles navigation and commentary. Stops for meals or coffee happen at your pace. A few cafes and restaurants sit along the route if you want to eat on the way. The tour runs 6 to 8 hours depending on which sites you choose and how long you linger.
Pickup is included from your Tallinn location. Infants can sit on an adult's lap or use a specialized infant seat if you request one. The tour suits all fitness levels. Most of it is driving and short walks, though the bog boardwalk and village streets involve some walking on foot.
