York self-guided tour app: 100+ destinations and treasure hunt

Hundreds of map pins, one app, no guidebook required

A self-guided tour and treasure hunt app covering over 100 destinations and challenges across York, playable on one smartphone device shared by your group. You navigate with GPS technology, solve clues at each stop, earn points toward the nationwide Travel League, and set your own pace with anytime start and free cancellation up to 24 hours before. The app takes you to hidden gems and lesser-known spots you'd likely miss on a standard tour.

The experience

When you arrive in York, log into the Loquiz app and hundreds of map pins appear on your screen. Each one marks a destination, a treasure hunt clue, or a challenge. You choose which ones to visit and in what order: walk the city streets, drive between stops, or hike into the countryside. GPS guides you to each location and tells you what to do when you get there: answer a quiz question, solve a riddle, or simply check in to earn points. The more you explore, the more points you accumulate toward the Travel League, a nationwide competition where top explorers win prizes each season.

One ticket covers your entire group on a single device, so a family of four or a group of friends buys one pass and passes the phone between them as you move through the day. You can start whenever you arrive. There's no fixed departure time or meeting point. If plans change, cancel free up to 24 hours before your pass begins. The app works for all ages and fitness levels, and it's designed to pull you away from the usual tourist routes into places locals know about.
