Private Family Bird of Prey Experience in Carlisle
Fly the birds yourself in an hour on Cumbrian farmland
A one-hour private family bird of prey activity in Carlisle's Cumbrian countryside where you handle owls, eagles, falcons, vultures and kestrels with expert local guides. The experience includes all bird handling equipment. Sessions run at 9am by default but can be rescheduled by calling ahead. Families of up to two adults and three children book as a group, and additional adults can join for an extra fee paid on arrival.
The Experience
One hour gets you through the whole flock. You'll fly owls, eagles, falcons, vultures and kestrels with your own hands, learning how each bird hunts and lives in its habitat. The guides are Cumbrians who've farmed this land for over a century, so they know the local species and the history: why medieval kings kept falconers close, and what falconry meant to England. It's outdoors on working farmland, which means the kids are actually doing something instead of watching, and the birds are used to cameras.
The session starts at 9am unless you call ahead to move it. All the gloves and handling gear come with the booking. Wheelchair access is available, and prams or strollers work fine if you're bringing infants. The whole thing is built around families, so there's time for photos and questions. It's not a rushed demo.
What’s included
- Use of bird handling gloves and equipment.

- time to fly each bird and learn about its habitat and behaviour.
