The Experience
You walk into the Devon shooting center and pick your range. The 20-meter air rifle lane stretches ahead, or you head to the rapid-fire pistol section, or step up to the Simway simulator if you want to try something closer to real-world scenarios. Over 100 targets are set up across the three ranges, and the moment you arrive, an instructor is there, not hovering, just present. They run through the basics, hand you the gun, and watch your first shot. Most people hit something on the second or third try, which is when you realize the training actually works.
The ammunition, targets, and air are all included, so there's no surprise cost and no fumbling with gear you've never used. The instructor gives you unlimited advice. They'll adjust your stance, your grip, your breathing if you ask, or leave you alone if you prefer to work it out. The range stays quiet enough that you hear the shot and the impact, which sounds different depending on what you're aiming at. You can spend twenty minutes or two hours. The package doesn't rush you.
The whole setup is wheelchair accessible, and the facility handles service animals without fuss. If you're traveling with kids, they can stay in a pram or stroller while you shoot. Public transport runs nearby if you're coming from Plymouth without a car. The place doesn't feel like a tourist trap. It's a working range where people come to shoot, and you're just another person doing the same thing.
