You’ll jump from Cornish cliffs into wild Atlantic water, scramble over slick rocks with expert guides by your side, and swim through secret gullies near Newquay’s Fistral Beach. Every moment gets captured on GoPro so you can relive those leaps later—and yes, your wetsuit keeps you warm even if your heart’s racing.
I didn’t really know what to expect from coasteering in Newquay. I’d seen a few videos—people leaping off rocks into the sea, grinning like maniacs—but standing there on Fistral Beach with the wetsuit clinging to my skin and the wind whipping salt in my face, it felt a lot more real. Our guide Sam handed out helmets and made a joke about “Cornish courage,” which got a laugh from everyone except maybe me (I was still eyeing the waves). The wetsuit was surprisingly warm though—like being hugged by a slightly damp seal.
We started clambering over these black rocks slick with seaweed, Sam pointing out limpets and telling us how this stretch of Cornwall has been shaped by storms for centuries. The first jump wasn’t huge—maybe two meters? Still, my heart hammered as I looked down. “Just go for it,” someone called behind me, so I did. The water hit cold and fizzy around my ears but honestly, it was kind of addictive. After that, we were scrambling up cliffs, sliding into gullies where the water smelled briny and sharp, then swimming through caves echoing with our laughter (and some nervous swearing). At one point I lost a boot in a rock pool—Sam fished it out and just grinned at me like this happens all the time.
By the end of our three-hour session, my arms felt heavy but weirdly light at the same time. We all stood dripping on the rocks while Sam showed us some GoPro shots—a blurry mid-air photo of me flailing that made everyone laugh. There’s something about seeing yourself do something you didn’t think you could pull off. Walking back toward Fistral Beach, wetsuits squeaking and hair stiff with salt, I caught myself already planning when I’d come back for another go. That mix of nerves and wild energy—I still think about that view from the top before jumping.
