Eat five meals across two cities and taste how Manchester and Salford built themselves

A 4-hour food and drink tour of Manchester and Salford led by a certified guide, covering both cities' culinary traditions and history. You'll walk through backstreets, visit local bars and restaurants, sample five large meals and three alcoholic drinks (beer, mixer options, or taste samples), and learn about the Bridgewater Canal, Manchester's Roman foundations, and the Granada TV studios. Alcohol is not available for travelers under 18.

4h

Step-by-step itinerary

Explore Manchester and Salford highlights

  • Visit Bridgewater Hall and Canal history
  • See foundations of Roman fort Mamucium
  • Tour modern theatre on Granada TV site
  • Walk back streets of Salford, bars and churches
  • Enjoy local drinks and traditional meals

The Experience

Four hours takes you through two cities. The tour starts with Manchester's transport history—the Bridgewater Hall, the Midland Hotel, Manchester Central Train Station—then moves to the Roman fort foundations that gave Manchester its name, Mamucium. You'll see the modern theatre built on the grounds of the old Granada TV studios, birthplace of Coronation Street. The certified guide narrates how these landmarks shaped the world around you as you walk.

The route then cuts through Salford's backstreets, stopping at local bars, restaurants and ancient churches. This is where the eating happens: five large meal options steeped in Manchester tradition, each one a different flavour and variation of local dishes. Three drinks are included—beer, a mixer option, or a sample taste—so the meals come with something to drink. The portions are sized to fill you for the day, not to leave you hungry between stops.

The guide speaks English and walks with the group the whole time. Public transportation options are nearby if you need them. Service animals are welcome. Infants sit on an adult's lap during the tour.
