Broadway Museum Butter Churning: 17th Century Coaching Tour
Make your own butter and eat it warm, surrounded by centuries of English history.
Churn Your Own Butter Experience at Broadway Museum is a hands-on class in the Cotswolds where you make butter using local Droitwich Salt, shape it in beeswax, and eat it fresh with soup and warm bread. The experience runs 2.5 hours and includes a traditional welcome drink, instruction from a live guide in English, and a rustic meal. Children are welcome from age 3.
The Experience
You arrive at Broadway Museum and Art Gallery for a traditional welcome drink, then move straight into the butter-making itself. Using locally sourced Droitwich Salt, you learn to churn, pat, season and wrap your butter in eco-friendly beeswax. The whole thing takes shape in your hands, and you take it home. This is not a demonstration: you do the work, guided through each step.
Once the butter is made, you sit down to a rustic meal built around what you've just created. A hearty 17th century soup or ploughman's lunch arrives with warm crusty bread, ready for your freshly made butter. The guide shares tales of the coaching era while you eat, setting the meal inside the history of the place rather than outside it. The whole experience runs about two and a half hours from start to finish.
