You walk Bath's Roman sites, Georgian architecture, and Jane Austen landmarks at your own pace, with expert audio narration at each stop. Then you move to Stonehenge and hear 10,000 years of history as you circle the stones. Download the tours offline, use GPS to stay oriented, and buy entrance tickets separately when you're ready. No group, no schedule, no waiting.
So you've got a day out of London and you're torn between the Roman Baths and Stonehenge, right? This is the thing — you don't have to choose. The audio tours cover both, and you move through them at whatever pace makes sense. Katie and Colm, the historians narrating, start you off at the Visitor's Centre in Bath with the legend of King Bladud and a pig that supposedly bathed in a hot spring, which is genuinely how the Romans found the place. From there you walk past Sally Lunn's tea shop (yes, the actual one from Jane Austen's time), down to the Roman Baths themselves, and then through the Georgian crescents and squares where Austen actually lived. The audio picks up at each stop — you're not wandering blind.
The Stonehenge section is separate but follows the same format. You download it beforehand, and the GPS map keeps you oriented as you walk the site. The narration goes into the Neolithic Village, the Aubrey Holes, the Beaker People, and some of the stranger theories about why it's there at all. Ten thousand years of history compressed into a walking route, which sounds like a lot until you realize you're stopping when you want, taking photos at the Instagram spots they've marked, and skipping ahead if something doesn't grab you. It's not a group tour, so there's no waiting for stragglers or listening to someone else's questions.
The catch — and it's worth knowing upfront — is that entrance fees to the Roman Baths, Stonehenge, or Thermae Bath Spa aren't included. You buy those separately when you're ready to go in. The audio gets you to the door with enough context that you understand what you're looking at. Some people do the walk and skip the paid attractions entirely, just taking in the exteriors and the streets themselves. Others buy tickets as they go. It's flexible, which is the whole point of self-guided.
You'll need your phone and either WiFi or a download done before you leave your hotel. The offline mode means you're not burning data as you walk, and the GPS doesn't require constant signal — it just needs to know where you are. Weather in Bath can shift fast, so layers are your friend, but the walks are flat enough that you're not climbing anything steep. Stonehenge is more exposed, so wind is real there.
Access to both self-guided audio tours (Bath and Stonehenge), offline download capability so you can listen without WiFi, GPS-enabled location maps to keep you oriented at each stop, expert narration from local historians, and marked photography spots. Entrance tickets to attractions, transport between London and Bath, and meals are not included.
