The Experience
Eight hours and four stops take you through the Yorkshire Dales countryside where the new All Creatures Great & Small series was filmed. Your driver is a local guide with stories about the real James Herriot and his years as a Yorkshire vet. They'll point out the village greens, churches, and farms that doubled as Darrowby on screen. Photo stops break up the drive, and you'll see the rolling hills and stone villages that shaped Wight's writing.
Grassington serves as your main lunch stop. It's the village used as Darrowby in the TV series, so you'll recognize the filming locations while you eat. The World of James Herriot Museum in Thirsk is optional. If you choose to visit, you'll walk through the house where Alf Wight lived, worked and wrote his bestselling books, with exhibits on his real life as a young vet. The tour ends with a refreshment break at the award-winning Wensleydale Creamery before the drive back to Harrogate.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, as is transport in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle sized for your group. The tour operates in all weather, though some attractions close November to March and the route may shift if conditions are poor. Children under five need a car seat you provide. Those five and up travel without restriction.
