The experience

The day opens at a working rum distillery where you learn how Salvadoran rum is made, hear the brand's story, and taste the product itself, then carry a bottle home. From there the route moves to Cihuatán Archaeological Park, one of El Salvador's most significant pre-Hispanic sites, where you walk among monumental pyramids and ceremonial plazas while your guide explains the Mesoamerican city that once stood there. The final stop is Suchitoto, a colonial town built on cobblestone streets with colorful historic buildings overlooking Lake Suchitlán. You visit the Santa Lucía Church, wander the town at your own pace, and have the option to eat lunch at a local restaurant with views across the lake.

Private transport in an air-conditioned vehicle moves you between the three stops. Your bilingual guide (fluent in both English and Spanish) narrates the history, culture and flavors throughout the day. Hotel pickup is included, and the tour provides bottled water and snacks along the route. Lunch is on your own, as are any tips.
