The Experience
The air was already warm when we stepped out of the van near Al Sahaba Mosque. The call to prayer drifted over the square, and I caught a faint scent of cardamom from a nearby tea vendor. Our guide waved us inside—the mosque’s domes looked even bigger up close. Inside, sunlight filtered through colored glass and painted patterns on the floor. It felt peaceful, almost hushed, except for the soft shuffle of slippers on marble.
We crossed town to the Coptic Orthodox Church next. I’d never seen Bible stories told like this—whole walls covered in vivid images, each corner with something new to spot. Our guide pointed out tiny details in the artwork that most people miss if they rush through. Outside, a breeze picked up and you could hear kids laughing somewhere down the street.
Later on, Naama Bay buzzed with life. We wandered past Hard Rock Café and a row of Egyptian coffee shops—smoke from shisha pipes curled into the evening air. There was time to grab a cold hibiscus juice before heading to Soho Square. If you can, go after dark; that’s when the Dancing Fountain really comes alive. Lights flickered in sync with Egyptian pop songs and families gathered around to watch—some locals even clapped along. By the time we got back to our hotel, my phone was full of photos and my feet were tired in the best way.
