The Experience
You arrive at Cairo airport and a representative meets you at arrivals, handles your luggage, and drives you to your hotel in a private air-conditioned car. The first afternoon is free. You can rest or add an optional sound-and-light show at the Pyramids or a Nile dinner cruise. The next morning your guide takes you to the Giza Plateau to walk around the Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos, and the Sphinx, which has stood for 4,500 years. Afterward you visit the Grand Egyptian Museum, which holds about 120,000 Egyptian artifacts, including the contents of King Tutankhamen's tomb.
On day three you fly to Aswan and go straight from the airport to Philae Temple, an island sanctuary built for the cult of Isis about 12 kilometers south of the city. Then you visit the Aswan High Dam, constructed between 1960 and 1970, which is 111 meters tall and created Lake Nasser, a reservoir 550 kilometers long. You board your cruise ship in the late afternoon and have lunch on board. The next two days you sail north with breakfast and lunch included each day: you stop at Kom Ombo Temple, shared between the gods Sobek and Haeroris, and at Edfu to visit the Temple of Horus, the best-preserved cult temple in Egypt. Afternoon tea is served while you sail to Esna.
On day five you arrive in Luxor and visit the West Bank, where you explore the Valley of the Kings, the royal cemetery of 62 Pharaohs, and the mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, built in the 15th century BC. You pass the Colossi of Memnon on the way. The next morning you disembark after breakfast and visit Luxor Temple on the East Bank before flying back to Cairo, where you're transferred to your hotel. Your final day is free until your airport transfer for departure. Throughout the week, bottled water, all meals at the hotel and on the cruise, service charges and taxes are covered. You choose your accommodation level at checkout: 5-star, 4-star or 3-star hotels in Cairo paired with the 5-star cruise.
