The experience
Kicker Rock rises almost 500 feet from the ocean as a remnant of a vertical tuff cone, its shape worn by erosion into what some see as a sleeping sea lion: León Dormido in Spanish. You snorkel around it to spot sea turtles, marine iguanas, rays and Galapagos sharks, along with tropical fish. On clear days hammerhead sharks appear. The cliffs hold blue-footed boobies, masked boobies and frigatebirds, while sea lions patrol the shore.
Rosa Blanca sits northeast of San Cristobal as a small bay with several beaches and large dunes fronting crystal-clear water. You disembark there and visit Laguna de Rosa Blanca, where the bay's calm conditions make it ideal for snorkeling to see sharks, rays and sea turtles. Sardina Bay, the second stop, is a fishing ground for sardines and lobster with two white-sand beaches and the same marine life: sea turtles, rays and sea lions are common in its shallow, clear water.
A certified naturalist guide in English or Spanish leads the full nine-hour day. Snorkel equipment (mask and fins) is provided. If you want a wetsuit, you arrange and pay for a rental separately. Lunch is included. You meet at the passenger pier for boarding, and the tour is subject to favorable weather. If poor conditions force a cancellation, you can choose an alternative date or receive a full refund.
