The day starts at Lake San Pablo, on the shores near Imbabura volcano. You taste traditional local biscuits with cheese and drink hot coffee while the landscape sits in front of you—this is the first stop, and it sets the pace for what comes next. From there, the route moves to Peguche waterfall, a walk of about half an hour through eucalyptus forest to reach the water. The main event is Otavalo Market, located 96 kilometers from Quito. You will find hand-woven sheep's wool ponchos and rugs from Peguche, leather goods made in Cotacachi, handmade ceramic masks, tablecloths, bags, hats and purses.
