The experience

Six hours means you move through the city without rushing. The tour starts with pickup from your Santo Domingo hotel and takes you straight into the Colonial Zone, the oldest European settlement in the Americas, established in 1502. From there you visit the Columbus Lighthouse, a monument and museum dedicated to Christopher Columbus, and the Alcázar de Colón: a 16th-century palace built for Diego Colón, Columbus's son, now a museum where you walk through rooms and gardens that show what Spanish colonial life looked like in the New World.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria la Menor, also called the Catedral Primada de América, is the next stop. It stands in the heart of the Colonial City as a landmark of spiritual and architectural significance. Then you head to Three Eyes National Park, where three interconnected limestone caves sit in the middle of the city: a natural break from the colonial streets. The Ozama Fortress comes next, built in the late 15th century to defend against pirates and foreign invasions. You explore its ancient walls, cannons and dungeons while looking out over the Ozama River. Lunch and the air-conditioned vehicle are included throughout the day, and El Conde Street (the historic main thoroughfare of the Colonial City) is part of the route.
