The Experience

You show up at the office on Maiselova 5 expecting to spend the morning hunting down three separate ticket counters. Instead, the staff hand you everything at once—Prague Castle, the Astronomical Clock Tower, and your choice of either the National Museum or the Jewish Quarter—all in one stop. The whole transaction takes minutes. Then you walk out with a map, login details for mobile audio guides, and the rest of your day actually free.

The Astronomical Clock Tower is the draw most people come for, and it's worth the trip. Every hour on the hour, two small trapdoors open and twelve apostles march out in sequence—it's been doing this since the 15th century, and about 75 percent of the mechanism is still original. You get entry to the tower itself, which means climbing up to views that sweep across Old Town Square and the rest of Prague's rooftops. Your ticket also covers the interiors of the Old Town Hall, so you can wander through its halls and chapel while you're there. The whole thing sits within walking distance of the office, as does everything else you'll visit that day.

For your third attraction, you choose. Option A is the National Museum—you skip the entry line and move straight into rooms with Czech artwork on the walls and ceilings, no famous international names but solid local work. Option B is the Jewish Quarter, which opens up access to seven sites: the Maisel Synagogue (built in 1592 with touch screens showing old Hebrew manuscripts), the Pinkas Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery, the Klausen Synagogue, the Ceremonial Hall, the Spanish Synagogue with its permanent exhibition on 19th and 20th-century Jewish life in Bohemia, and a gallery for temporary shows. Note that the synagogues close on Saturdays and during Jewish holidays, so plan around that if it matters to your dates.

Prague Castle itself is the third piece—Circuit B takes you through the castle grounds at your own pace, covering St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, and Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower. The castle's history runs back to the 9th century, and it's been home to kings, emperors, and presidents. During September and October, some buildings occasionally close for the annual Crown Jewel Exhibition, so if you're booking then, you'll get an email about any temporary closures. The audio guides work on your phone as long as you have internet, and they walk you through the main points at each stop. You pick up your tickets anytime between 9am and 16:00—just look for the blue and white umbrella at the office.
