You’ll float above Adriatic sea life in a see-through kayak as colored lights reveal fish and plants beneath you. With a local guide leading from Pula’s Verudela area, you’ll get tips (and laughs), plus photos taken for you. The tour ends with Istrian wine or craft beer back on shore — and probably some stories you’ll want to tell later.
Ever wondered what the sea looks like at night from just above the surface? I didn’t, honestly, until we were sitting on the pebbles at Verudela and our guide, Luka, handed me a paddle and pointed to these clear kayaks glowing like jellyfish. He grinned and said, “Don’t worry if you’ve never done this before — it’s easier than it looks.” The air was still warm but you could already smell that salty Adriatic breeze mixing with sunscreen and someone’s leftover pizza nearby. We got a quick rundown on how not to tip over (I’m proud to say I didn’t), then set out just as the last bit of orange faded from the sky.
The LED lights under our transparent kayak made everything below look sort of unreal — little fish darting in and out of rocks, bits of seaweed waving around, all of it softly lit up like an aquarium. Luka kept pointing out things I would’ve missed: “See that? Sea cucumber.” (I pretended I did.) Sometimes we’d drift for a minute without talking, just listening to the water slap against plastic and watching the glow spread out underneath us. At one point my friend tried to take a photo but nearly dropped her phone in — Luka laughed and promised he’d send us good ones later anyway.
I’ll admit, I kept forgetting to look up at the sky because there was so much happening under the kayak. But when I did, there were more stars than I expected for being so close to town. After we paddled back in, they handed us a glass of local wine (or beer if you wanted), which tasted way better after an hour on the water. My shorts were damp but who cares — it felt good. Still think about that weird blue light on my hands from the paddle.
