The whole experience runs about four hours.

Step-by-step itinerary

Visit plantation and local village

  • Pass local markets and infrastructure
  • See rubber and cacao trees
  • Learn harvesting and export process
  • Take mud bath or ride zip-lines
  • Eat local cuisine and drink palm wine
  • Meet locals from various tribes

The experience

What does a cocoa or rubber plantation actually look like when it's working? The day starts by driving through Abidjan's local markets and past the transport that moves the city (woro woros, gbakas, pus-pus), so you see how goods move before you reach the source. At Domaine Bini Forest, you walk among rubber trees and cacao plants and watch how locals harvest and prepare them for export. A guide explains the work as you move through the rows.

After the plantation tour, you choose what comes next: a zip-line run through the forest canopy or a mud bath, or both if the schedule allows. Lunch is local cuisine (fresh chicken, fish, deep-fried plantains, rice and other dishes) served with artisan palm wine, coconut milk, bissap juice and ginger juice. You eat with locals from various tribes and hear their stories about the forest and the work.

Bring your own bathing suit and towels if you plan to take the mud bath. Private transportation picks you up from your hotel and brings you back, so you don't need a car or need to navigate to the forest on your own. A guide who speaks English or French stays with you the whole time.

Is this one for you?The private transportation and hotel pickup mean you don't need a car or have to find your way to the forest on your own, which settles the logistics if you're staying in Abidjan without a rental. The four-hour timeframe fits into an afternoon or morning without eating a full day, so it works alongside other plans in the city.
