You float the river itself, not watch it from a boat.

Tube down Rio Agujitas near Drake Bay on a guided activity through primary and secondary forest, starting from the family-owned Rio Agujitas eco Farm. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, a guide, tubing equipment, snacks and bottled water. It runs either early morning (7–8 am) or early afternoon (1 pm) and lasts around four hours. Children from age two are welcome, and the operator has run tours here since 1928.

The experience

The day starts with pickup from your hotel in Drake Bay, then a drive to Rio Agujitas eco Farm, a secluded part of the jungle where the Nativos Corcovado family has lived and guided since the 1920s. From there you hike through primary and secondary forest (the kind of dense, layered canopy where spotting wildlife is real) before reaching the river. The hike itself is the entry to the activity. It is not a separate leg but the passage that makes the tubing run meaningful.

Once on the water, you float the river in a tube, moving at the pace the current sets. This is not a whitewater run or a guided paddle. You are in the water, moving through the forest, watching the canopy and the banks as they pass. The guide stays with the group and points out species and details you would miss alone. Snacks and water are provided during the float, and the whole outing (hike, float, return) takes around four hours.

Bring a waterproof camera if you want to capture the wildlife and the forest from water level. Water shoes are optional but useful on the hike and in the river. The farm itself is family-run and small, which is why the spot stays quiet and why the wildlife stays present. This is not a commercial operation with dozens of tubes on the water at once.

What is Rio Agujitas eco Farm and why does the tour start there?

Rio Agujitas eco Farm is the family property where Nativos Corcovado operates, located in a secluded part of the jungle near Drake Bay. The tour begins there because it sits at the trailhead to the river and because the family has managed the forest and the farm since 1928, so they know which trails and sections of the river hold the most wildlife and the best conditions for tubing.

Do I need experience or fitness to do this activity?

No. The tubing is suitable for all physical fitness levels, and children from age two are welcome. The hike to the river is part of the experience but not strenuous, and once on the water you are floating, not paddling or swimming.

What wildlife might I see while tubing Rio Agujitas?

The primary and secondary forest along Rio Agujitas is home to a range of species, and the guide will point them out as you float. The exact animals you spot depend on the time of day and the season, but the forest canopy and the river banks are where sightings happen.

Is the tubing equipment provided, or do I need to bring my own?

All tubing equipment is included in the tour, along with a guide, hotel pickup and drop-off, snacks and bottled water. You should bring a waterproof camera if you want to photograph wildlife and the forest from the water.
