The experience

The Sarapiqui River trip starts at either 8:30 AM or 11:30 AM from the base in La Virgen de Sarapiqui. You'll gear up, take a short drive to the calm section of the river, and begin with a safety briefing and basic paddling practice before pushing off. The guide leads the way down 12 km of Class I–II rapids, helping you refine your technique as you go and pointing out the wildlife and jungle plants visible only from the water. This is not a kayak clinic. It's a chance to practice under instruction on a river that suits both beginners and paddlers with some experience.

About two hours on the water brings you back to the base, where you'll find towels, a dressing room and lockers. A fresh tropical snack (local root yucca and fresh fruit) waits for you there. All safety equipment, insurance and instruction are included in the price. The guide speaks English or Spanish, and you'll need to sign a waiver at check-in.
