The experience

This is a bareboat rental with a captain: you're not taking a tour, you're taking the boat. The 41-footer holds up to 18 people and runs for eight hours, which is enough time to motor out to the Rosario Islands, anchor at Cholon, and come back without rushing. The captain handles the navigation and the engine. Your group handles the itinerary. You decide how long to stay at each stop, whether to jump in the water, and where to eat lunch: some groups pack their own, others find a restaurant on one of the islands.

Fuel and the captain's time are included in the price, along with 24 bottles of water and 12 local beers. Snorkeling gear and scuba equipment are not on board, so if that's the plan, arrange rentals separately before you go. Towels don't come with the boat. The boat departs from Cartagena. Pickup from your hotel is available but costs extra and needs to be arranged after you book. If you're staying in the old city or near the waterfront, the walk to the dock is short.

Is this one for you?The boat leaves from Cartagena's waterfront and doesn't require a car to reach: hotel pickup is available for an extra fee, or you can walk or take local transport from the city. This works for groups staying anywhere in Cartagena who want to control the day themselves instead of following a fixed tour schedule.
