The experience
A driver picks you up from your hotel in San Gil, Barichara or Bucaramanga and takes you to Parque Nacional del Chicamocha. Once there, your entrance ticket is already arranged, so you walk straight in without waiting at the box office. The park itself is built around Santander's culture and landscape: zip lines cross the canyon, replicas of colonial towns let you walk through miniature versions of regional architecture, and monuments scattered through the grounds tell the story of the department. The cable car is the centerpiece: it swings out over the canyon so you see the rock walls and mountains from above, then you're free to move through the rest of the park at your own pace.
Most of the day is spent walking between attractions, so comfortable shoes matter. The park operates in all weather, and the operator recommends sunscreen, mosquito repellent, a sweatshirt and water. A gastronomic experience is included as part of the tour. After you've explored the attractions that interest you, the driver brings you back to your hotel. The whole outing runs about eight hours from pickup to drop-off.

Is this one for you?Choose your pickup town at checkout: San Gil if you're based in the central valley, Barichara if you're staying in the colonial hill town, or Bucaramanga if you're coming from the airport or the city. The self-guided pace inside the park works well if you want to linger at the cable car or spend extra time on the zip lines without a schedule pushing you forward.
