The experience

The Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá opens the day. Built inside a salt mine by the region's miners, it stands as a monumental work of faith and craft, with surprises at every turn through its underground chambers. From there, the route climbs to Monserrate, a mountain sanctuary at 3,152 meters in the Cerros Orientales that overlooks the city. You reach it by cable car or funicular, and the Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord draws thousands of Catholic pilgrims each year.

Back in Bogotá's historic center, a walking tour through La Candelaria takes in the Plaza del Chorro de Quevedo (the city's oldest plaza, now a colorful bohemian gathering place with murals and street art), and the Plaza de Bolívar, framed by the Liévano Palace, National Capitol and Primada Cathedral. The plaza has been the country's political and cultural heart since colonial times.

Two museums anchor the afternoon. The Botero Museum houses works by Fernando Botero and major Western artists in a space founded by the artist's own donation. The Gold Museum holds 34,000 pieces of gold and precious objects from Muisca and Tayrona cultures, used in daily life and sacred rituals. Private transportation moves between all stops in an air-conditioned vehicle. Lunch and water are provided, and your guide speaks both English and Spanish throughout the day.
