You’ll explore Cartagena’s colorful old town with a local photographer who knows all the best angles and hidden corners. Get natural portraits and candid shots as you wander past colonial houses and lively plazas—plus tips on where to eat or explore next. Pets are welcome too!
We met right outside the Starbucks at Bolivar Park—easy to spot, with the morning sun already warming up the plaza. Our guide, Clau or sometimes her friend Faride, greeted us with a big smile and a few quick tips about what to expect. The city was just waking up; you could hear street vendors setting up and smell fresh arepas drifting from a nearby cart.
The walk started slow, winding through narrow alleys lined with those famous pastel houses and iron balconies dripping with bougainvillea. We stopped every so often for photos—some posed, some just catching us laughing or looking around. I liked that Clau gave gentle directions but also let us do our thing. At Plaza de Santo Domingo, she pointed out the Botero sculpture (the one everyone touches for luck) and snapped a few candid shots while we watched locals play chess under the trees.
We passed by the Cathedral Santa Catalina of Alexandria—the bells chimed right as we arrived, which made for an unexpected soundtrack in our photos. The old city wall was another highlight; Clau knew exactly where to stand for that golden light that makes your skin look good even after sweating in the Caribbean heat. If you bring your pet along, they’re totally part of the shoot too—I saw someone’s little dog posing like a pro.
Afterwards, we grabbed a cold fruit juice at a café tucked behind the plaza. We swapped stories about other places to visit in Cartagena—Clau had plenty of recommendations for food and hidden corners. She promised to send over the edited photos soon (usually within a couple days). Flexible timing made it easy to fit this into our plans—even if you’re not an early riser.
