The Experience
Your guide meets you at the hotel lobby in Wulingyuan District and walks you through the day's route. You'll arrange your own transport to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park—a cab or bus ride—then the tour begins. The cable car up Tianzi Mountain is your first major climb, and the views from the ride itself matter as much as the summit. Tianzi Mountain holds the highest peak in the Wulingyuan area, and the guide will point out the four natural phenomena the site is known for: the Sea of Clouds, the Radiance of the Moonlight, Rays of Sunshine, and snow in winter when it comes.
After roughly an hour on Tianzi Mountain, a 30-minute shuttle bus takes you to Yuanjiajie Scenic Area, where the towering sandstone pillars that inspired Avatar's Hallelujah Mountains rise around you. This is the busiest stop of the day and the reason most people come. You can pause here for lunch if you want—there are simple options on-site, paid separately—or keep moving. The guide will show you the angles and vantage points that match the film's imagery.
The Bailong Elevator is the final piece. This glass elevator is mounted directly on a cliff face and drops you 1,100 feet in 2 minutes. It's the tallest full-exposure outdoor elevator in the world, and the descent gives you a completely different view of the landscape you've been walking through. Once you reach the base, you arrange your own transport back to your hotel. The whole day runs 8 to 9 hours from start to finish.

Is this one for you?A private guide means you move at your own pace and get explanations tailored to what interests you, rather than following a group schedule—worth it if you want to linger on the peaks or ask questions without holding others back. The fixed inclusions (cable car, elevator, shuttle) mean you're not deciding which attractions to skip or paying separately for each one as you go.

What exactly is Hallelujah Mountain and why is it famous?
Hallelujah Mountain is the towering sandstone pillar formation in Yuanjiajie Scenic Area that served as the visual inspiration for the floating mountains in the film Avatar. You'll see them on the tour and the guide will explain the connection.
Do I have to ride the cable car and the Bailong Elevator, or can I skip them?
Both the cable car to Tianzi Mountain and the Bailong Elevator descent are included in the tour price and are part of the planned route. The cable car gets you to the summit; the elevator brings you down from Yuanjiajie on the other side of the park.
What's the Bailong Elevator like if I'm afraid of heights?
The Bailong Elevator is a glass elevator built on the side of a cliff, so the walls are transparent and you can see the drop. If heights make you very uncomfortable, this is something to consider before booking, though many travelers find the view worth the brief 2-minute ride.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Lunch is not included in the tour price. You'll have the option to stop at simple food options in Yuanjiajie Scenic Area during the middle of the day and pay for your meal separately.
How do I get to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park from my hotel?
You arrange your own transportation—either a cab or local bus—from your hotel in Wulingyuan District to the park entrance. Your guide will meet you at your hotel to help coordinate this, but the cost is separate from the tour price.
What's the fitness level required for this tour?
You should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. The day involves walking at both Tianzi Mountain and Yuanjiajie, plus the cable car and elevator rides. Infants can sit on an adult's lap during the rides.
