The experience
You start the day on a bike, riding through the green landscape and nearby villages around Yangshuo. The cycling portion lets you move at your own pace through the countryside before the group reconvenes for the Yulong River. The river itself is a tributary of the Li River, and bamboo rafting there puts you on the water the way local people use it, as daily transport between houses, markets and rice paddies. You're steering the raft, not sitting in a motorboat, so the speed and the angle of view stay in your hands.
Lunch happens at a local farmer's house, where the meal is made from produce grown on the property. After eating, the afternoon takes you to Moon Hill, the limestone peak shaped like a moon when seen from a distance. The hike up involves more than 800 stairs through dense bamboo and trees, ending at a platform near the summit with views over Yangshuo town and the surrounding karst landscape. Climbers often work the overhanging cliff face near the moon-shaped cave at the top, so you'll see people on the rock as you climb.
The day closes with Impression Sanjie Liu, a 70-minute outdoor performance staged directly on the Li River. The show uses the natural backdrop (mist, moonlight, 12 karst peaks and their reflections) as part of the stage design, with 600 performers (most of them local fishermen) moving through seven episodes of classical folk songs and ethnic culture. Zhang Yimou, who directed the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony, created the production. The whole tour runs eight to ten hours from pickup to return.

Top questions
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (11 to 17 years); Child (6 to 10 years); Infant (1 to 5 years).
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What is the Yulong River like for someone who has never rafted before?
The Yulong River is a tributary of the Li River used by local people as daily transport, so the rafts are stable and the pace is manageable. You steer the bamboo raft yourself, moving at a speed that lets you take in the limestone mountains and the scenery on both sides of the river without rushing.
How steep is the climb up Moon Hill and how long does it take?
Moon Hill has more than 800 stairs leading to the moon-shaped cave and the main viewing platform near the summit. The hike is steady and the bamboo forest provides shade, but it is a real climb. The reward is the view from the top over Yangshuo town and the karst landscape.
What happens at the farmhouse lunch and what kind of food is served?
Lunch is at a local farmer's house and the meal is made from produce grown on the property. It is a stop built into the day to rest and eat before the afternoon activities, not a formal restaurant experience.
What is Impression Sanjie Liu and why is it performed on the river instead of indoors?
Impression Sanjie Liu is a 70-minute outdoor performance on the Li River that uses the natural landscape (mist, moonlight, 12 karst peaks and their reflections in the water) as the backdrop. The show stages across 2 kilometers of river with 600 performers, most of them local fishermen, moving through seven episodes of classical folk songs and ethnic culture. Performing outdoors on the river itself is what makes the natural scenery part of the show.
Is private transport included and who else will be on the tour?
Private transportation is included for the whole day. The tour is a private booking, so the group is just your party and the guide.
