The experience
The Terracotta Army (thousands of life-sized clay soldiers and horses buried with China's first emperor in 210–209 BC) anchors this tour. Discovered by farmers in 1974, the figures remain in their original formation, a funerary army meant to protect the emperor in the afterlife. You'll walk among them with your guide, who explains the craftsmanship and historical context that makes this one of the world's most significant archaeological finds.
From the museum, the tour moves to Xi'an's City Wall, a 12-meter-high structure that has stood for 600 years and still encircles the city center. You'll stroll along it and enter through the South Gate, one of the wall's original passages. Then comes the Great Mosque, where Chinese architectural style meets Islamic design. A physical reminder that Xi'an was the eastern terminus of the Silk Road, where Buddhism and Islam arrived in China alongside trade goods. The Muslim Quarter follows, where you can walk through handicraft shops and sample local snacks (at your own cost) in a neighborhood that has been home to Muslim communities for centuries.
Your private air-conditioned vehicle and English-speaking guide stay with you throughout the 8 hours, handling all logistics and entrance fees. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included, so you don't need to arrange transport to the first stop.

Top questions
What exactly is the Terracotta Army and why is it so important?
The Terracotta Army is a collection of thousands of life-sized clay soldiers, horses and chariots buried with Qin Shi Huang, China's first emperor, around 210–209 BC. They were created as funerary art to protect the emperor in the afterlife and remained hidden until local farmers discovered them in 1974. The figures are arranged in their original military formation and represent one of archaeology's greatest finds.
How long do we spend at the Terracotta Warriors Museum?
The museum is the primary stop on this 8-hour tour, so you'll have substantial time to walk among the figures and see the ancient chariots. Your guide will explain the history and craftsmanship as you move through the site.
Can I walk on the City Wall, or is it just viewing from below?
You'll take a stroll on the City Wall itself. At 12 meters high and 15 meters wide, it's a massive structure that has stood for 600 years and you'll enter through the historic South Gate.
What is the Muslim Quarter like, and will I have time to eat there?
The Muslim Quarter is a neighborhood with handicraft shops, Muslim restaurants, and the Great Mosque, which features uncommon Chinese architectural elements. You'll have time to walk through and sample local snacks if you'd like. Meals are at your own expense and your guide can recommend restaurants.
Does the tour include lunch?
Lunch is not included in the tour price. Your guide will recommend local restaurants in the Muslim Quarter or elsewhere, and you can eat at your own pace during the tour.
Is hotel pickup really included, or do I need to meet the guide somewhere?
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. Your guide will collect you from your hotel at the start and return you at the end of the 8 hours, so you don't need to arrange separate transport to the first stop.
