The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel at a time you choose, and the first thing you do is tell them what you actually want to shop for. The sample itinerary hits Old Town bazaar, the area locals call China Town, where you walk past the oldest Huxinting Tea House and cross the lucky nine-arch zigzag bridge. From there you move to Yu Garden, built in the Ming Dynasty more than five centuries ago, and your guide walks you through the stone alleyways and local markets that fill the surrounding area.

The Bund comes next: you stand along the Huangpu River and watch the old colonial buildings face off against Shanghai's modern skyline while your guide explains how the city transformed. Then you head into French Concession, where stone alley houses and local markets give the neighborhood its own character. Throughout the day, your guide steers you toward markets that match what you came to buy, whether that's souvenirs, fabrics, or tailored clothing from the South Bund soft spinning market or a tailor and fabric market where you can commission pieces. At the end of the day, you get dropped at your hotel or another downtown location you choose.

The tour runs 7 to 8 hours. A professional driver handles the vehicle and navigation, so you focus on the stops and the guide's stories rather than traffic.
