The tour starts at Shanghai Old Town and Yu Garden Bazaar, where you walk through Ming and Qing Dynasty architecture, colorful street markets and a 200-year-old tea house perched on a nine-turning lucky bridge. Your guide can help you explore the neighborhoods or handle souvenir shopping, depending on how much time you want to spend there.

From there, the route moves to the Bund, the former British Concession along the river where you see the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jinmao Tower, Shanghai World Financial Center and Shanghai Tower rising across the water. Your guide explains the colonial and modern history as you walk the riverbank. If the weather is clear, you can go up to an observation deck on one of the towers for a view of the whole city. Next is Pudong, the newer financial district that was farmland two decades ago—you walk the sky bridges among the newest skyscrapers.

The tour ends in the French Concession, a neighborhood that mixes European architecture with local street life, tree-lined blocks and small galleries. Along the way, you'll sample local food. If you've booked the spa option, you'll have time for a foot or body treatment at a selected center before your driver takes you back to the airport or your Shanghai hotel. The whole day is flexible: if you finish the main stops early, your guide can take you to Nanjing Road, the Jade Buddha Temple, or one of the city museums instead.
