The Experience
I didn’t expect the air in Sanya to smell so green — like wet leaves after rain, even though it was sunny when we stepped out of the hotel. It was humid but breezy, and for a second everything felt kind of suspended up there above the city.
After that we skipped shopping (by choice) and went for lunch at a spot Mr. Chen recommended — not touristy at all; plastic stools, lots of locals eating fish soup. He helped us order because honestly I couldn’t read anything on the menu except “rice.” By late afternoon we were back at our hotel, tired but in that good way where your head’s full of new things to think about.
