This private 8-hour day tour in Guiyang takes you from your hotel through Qianling Mountain Park to the 600-year-old Qingyan Ancient Town, where you explore temples, churches and old stone houses, then returns you to the city's largest Flowers and Birds Market. The tour includes hotel pickup and drop-off, a private guide in English or Chinese, and a local lunch. You can add dinner and an evening show at checkout.
The experience
Your guide and driver meet you at your hotel at 8:30 AM and head first to Qianling Mountain Park, where the morning brings locals doing Tai Chi, singing, dancing and playing cards. You'll watch people feeding wild monkeys in the mountain: a quiet spot to see how the community moves through the day. From there, the drive up to Qingyan Ancient Town takes about an hour.
Qingyan is a 600-year-old town of stone houses, temples, churches and shops built into the hillside. You'll have lunch at a local restaurant with dishes like pot-stewed trotter, oily spicy chicken and Qingyan tofu: the kind of food the town is known for. In the afternoon, you explore on foot: Taoist and Buddhist temples, a Christian church, the former home of a top scholar from the 1880s, and the option to walk the 3-kilometer city wall if you have the energy and time.
After Qingyan, your guide drives you back to downtown Guiyang to visit the Flowers and Birds Market, the largest of its kind in the city. You'll see locals buying and selling pets, plants, handcrafts and other goods: a working market, not a tourist stop. The tour ends with a return to your hotel.
